Wilderness Magazine have trialed our Weka 2 Hiker tent in their September issue. They voted it the Best Tent on a Budget and given it their coveted 'Wilderness Recommends' Badge!
The Weka 2 is spacious for a two-person tent, and for the price, is a great option for camping as long as weight isn’t an issue. At 2400g, it’s fairly hefty and will require it to be split between your group.
Pitching is a breeze; with colour-coded aluminium poles and a full-coverage tent fly which snaps into place with adjustable buckles.
There’s ample headroom in this tent; it’s unique configuration provides enough space to sit up without your head grazing the ceiling. With both entrances open, it feels airy and spacious and is roomy enough not to feel cramped.
Ample vestibules provide plenty of storage space.
The tent was put through its paces on several trips. It held up in the wind, rain, on sandy beaches and in mud puddles. The 4000mm fly and 5000mm floor was up to the task; during one heavy downpour, the tent ended up in a puddle almost tipping over the bathtub floor, but we remained bone-dry inside.
This low-cost tent can handle the rigours of the New Zealand outdoors and despite its weight; the price tag makes it an attractive option.
