REVIEWS
The Weka 2 is spacious for a two-person tent, and for the price, is a great option for camping as long as weight isnt an issue. At 2400g, its fairly hefty and will require it to be split between your group. Pitching is a breeze; with colour-coded aluminium poles and a full-voverage tent fly which snaps into place with adjustable buckles. Theres ample headroom in this tent; its unique configuration provides enough space to sit up without your head grazing the ceiling. With both entrances open, it feels airy and spacious and is roomy enough not to feel cramped. Ample vestibules provide plenty of storage space. The tent was put through its paces on several trips. It held up in the wind, rain, on sandy beaches and in mud puddles. The 4000mm fly and 5000mm floor was up to the task; during one heavy downpour, the tent ended up in a puddle almost tipping over the bathtub floor, but we remained bone-dry inside. This low-cost tent can handle the rigours of the New Zealand outdoors and despite its weight; the price tag makes it an attractive option. - Meghan Walker (for Wilderness Magazine) Voted Best Tent on a Budget Scores (out of 5): Value 5 Weight 3 Comfort 5 Features 3 In use 4 OVERALL 4
I use this just for me as I prefer 2-man tents over 1-man. The only one I use up in the Kaimai-Mamaku ranges nowadays: light as, waterproofed to the max, warm and quick to set up. Having the outer shell is a bonus too because you can keep your boots (and your pack if you wish) under cover but not in the tent proper. Like others have said, the entry/exit either side comes in more handy than you think. Absolutely recommend these: if you get one, hold onto it, as sometimes stocks seem to evaporate. Great resale too once your hunting days are over!
I bought the weka 2 to replace another two man tent prior to walking rakiora. I was looking for a tent with double sided entry and decent vestibules on both sides as I don't like getting my pack wet over night. Well I have to say that this tent is a really user friendly design . You can get up during the night without disturbing your tent mate and both can keep there packs and boots undercover at night. I'm 5ft11 and could stretch out easily without my head rubbing. There are pockets in the right places and adequate ventilation to keep you warm and not clammy. It rained each night on the trail and we found it to perform well in the wet. Our companions had a MSR and there tent fly seemed to be wet on both sides while ours had shed the water off completely maybes that was because it was new? The other thing I liked is that the fly ran all the way to the ground. I think that's important in nz weather. The weight was fine and only slightly heavier than the mackpack it replaced. All in all I highly recommend it and am glad I bought it.
bought this tent 1 year ago, used many times hunting/tramping up in the ranges, amazing! never leaked once in huge downpours, or being covered in snow. highly recommend this tent over anything i have used or seen. Great quality, great design, packs small, light.
