  • Instructions
  • 5000mm aqua rated The waterproofness of polyester is rated in mm which refers to water column height in millimetres. This fabric will withstand a 5000mm column of water for more than one minute before a single drop might appear through the fabric. The thicker the coating the longer the aqua rating lasts so Kiwi Camping double-coat our polyester, meaning our aqua rating is the minimum waterproofness, rather than the maximum.
  • Peg mallet included For your convenience, we’ve included a peg mallet with this tent! This is designed with a rubber head that won’t damage your pegs. We’ve got you covered!
  • 150 denier fabric We use a high density/high thread count (Denier) PU coated polyester fabric for the fly, which we have developed over many years. This fabric has superior tensile strength and is 8 times more durable than nylon. It doesn't stretch or sag when wet like nylon does and is a heavier quality than comparable fabrics.
  • Seam sealed The seams of your dome tent or shelter are the most vulnerable for water leakage. We use a custom-developed method of heat-sealing tape over the seams to maintain waterproofing, resulting in maximum protection against the elements at all points.
  • Double stitched seams Lap felled seam construction (doubling seams around on each other) with double stitching ensures maximum strength around the seams of your tent.
  • UV protection For added safety and comfort the fabric has UPF 50+UV protection.
  • Fire retardant The fabric has also been treated with a fire retardant solution. Even with this protection, ensure you take particular care around heat and flames. Avoid using open flame, heating or cooking appliances in or around your tent.
  • Heavy-duty PE floor Heavy-duty PE fabric is used to withstand foot traffic for many years.
  • Fibreglass poles Our StructureFlex fibreglass poles are the largest diameter possible, relative to the size of the tent. This ensures you get maximum strength at minimum weight. They are also coloured to match the coloured pole sleeves.
  • Hybrid frame A hybrid frame combines the flexibility of fibreglass with the strength of steel. It provides superior wind stability without compromising the height or volume inside the tent. This system holds the walls out more vertically and makes them easier to erect.
  • Extra wall and peak height This tent has a very high peak and wall height giving more head room and more internal air volume ensuring a cooler tent over the hot summer.
  • Sunroom floor Minimises dampness from the ground. Loose fitting so can be removed if not needed.
  • Airflow system In NZ the temperature variance from day to night can be extreme. With this in mind we include vents that are positioned to provide the greatest air flow through the tent during the day. At night they can be closed to contain valuable warmth.
  • Power mesh pole sleeves Power mesh pole sleeves make it easier to feed the poles through. If you were to cause a rip in the material it will not tear like a polyester pole sleeve, meaning you can continue to use your tent!
  • Pin and ring pole attachment Quick and easy pole assembly and dismantling system.
  • Guy rope attachment This guy rope attachment spreads the tension evenly and pulls from the frame giving more support.
  • Quality zips, ropes and poles All our tents use heavy-duty coil zips, guy ropes and poles so you can be assured your tent will last for many years of exciting family camping holidays.
  • Tri-tensioners We use triangle-shaped guy rope tensioners rather than in-line tensioners to ensure the ropes do not slip.
  • Speed-Clips Fast and efficient for erecting the tent. Flexibility allows for movement in windy conditions.
  • No-see-um mesh Even small bugs can't get through our no-see-um-mesh. Enjoy insect free living with ample air circulation.
  • 3-way windows The windows are clear PVC zipped on the outside, with no-see-um mesh sewn in the middle and an internally zipped 'privacy' window on the inside. Both inside and outside flaps can be opened to allow a flow of air through the tent.
  • PVC skylights/windows Skylight windows are 2-way, with clear PVC on the outside and a 'privacy' screen on the inside. This adds valuable light in all weather conditions but maintains privacy.
  • Accessory pockets Accessory pockets provide handy storage for smaller items and valuables.
  • Door storage pockets Clean and neat storage for the doors when they are fully zipped open.
  • Storage pockets Handy storage to easily locate important items and to minimise clutter.
  • Lantern hanging points Conveniently located tabs to hang LED lanterns.
  • Power cord entry Power cord entry makes it easy to plug in appliances or charge your phone when on a powered tent site.
  • Size: 715 x 580 (cm)

  • Awesome Takahe 10 tent Michael Shepherd

As a family of six we decided to try camping and purchased the Takahe 10 dome tent. We love it and enjoyed a fantastic holiday away with plenty of room for the kids our kitchen gear and table. Highly recommend Kiwi Camping and the Takahe 10
  • Performance of tent- OUTSTANDING!: Mark

We purchased our Equinox tent in May this year and we had our first 'outing' in it at Labour Weekend just gone. Apart from a practice setup in the back yard we had not slept in it and it was the first tenting experience for both of our kids. Camped at Foxton Beach and got absolutely hammered with very high winds and lashing rain (almost horizontal at times) from about 2am Monday morning right through to 9am. I've done a fair bit of tenting over the years in various sized tents in various parts of the world and these Foxton Beach conditions would be the worst that I have tented in. Especially for the high wind with rain combo. The tent was absolutely fantastic in every respect. As it should the fly took the brunt of the conditions meanwhile inside the structure remained calm and almost serene. Whilst both kids were in the room on the windward side they both slept right through everything. In the case of one, who rarely gets past a 7am sleep, he was toast through to 8am!!! Not a drip of water inside the tent anywhere. As they say, very happy campers with our purchase of an Equinox!
Hi Mark, Thanks for your feedback and taking the time to write a review. The Takahe 10 is the same as the old Equinox family dome tent, with new added features. We wish you plenty more fun filled family holidays!
  • Second tent Raymond

We are on our second kiwi camping tent and purchased the takahe 10 two years ago. This year we had the pleasure of camping in Taupo during the severe weather storm that delivered major damage across the upper north island during the holiday season. What impressed me was how well the tent stood up to the high winds (80+km) and the huge amount of rain that we were subject to during the 48 hours of the storm. Many other campers who were using other brands at the site were spending hours catching leaks and trying to hold down their tents. We didn’t have a single leak and the tent held strong. Outstanding product for kiwi conditions
  • Great tent with lots of space Phil

This tent is awesome. We loved the size of it, the accessory pockets on the walls for putting bits and pieces in, and especially the size of the front section which we used as a kitchen area.

The Takahe

The Takahe

Another endemic bird, the takahe looks like an overweight pukeko. However, unlike the pukeko, takahes are extremely rare with only about 200 left now. It is a flightless bird, leaving it at the mercy of predators.
